How and why Andrew Jackson destroyed Angola (Settlement in Florida for free Africans)

Jackson invaded Florida in 1816, claiming national security concerns.
The future president ordered the destruction of Negro Fort, a former
British stronghold left to black allies after the War of 1812. The
demise of the Florida Panhandle outpost likely caused a population boom

Historians say finding Angola would give new insight into Florida’s role
as a safe haven for runaway slaves. It would also highlight the state’s
violent transition into a bastion of bondage.

Reading lovers are coming together to help us get books into the hands of kids who need them the most. Remember visiting Narnia, playing Jumanji, and eating Green Eggs and Ham? Books can have an incredible effect on children’s lives, yet there’s only one book for every 300 kids living in underserved communities in the U.S. So we’ve brought together some of our most beloved literary characters to help make this film and rally Book People for the cause.
